Ardha Matsyendrāsana Sorta

Here’s one, some variation of the Half Lord of the Fishes Pose, that makes my lower back talk. And my lower back has a lot of stories! I learned one thing about 4 or 5 years ago, the problem with my back is my front. Namaste, Ofie! I’ve illustroblogged before about yoga, check those posts out.

  1. My favorite teaching props / prompts for this asana are A) Sitting in a chair as you can use the chair back & sides as leverage to go deeper into the pose (If you’re properly warmed up) and B) Having your gaze proceed the movement. So inhale, look to the shoulder you’re twisting towards, THEN have your head & body follow. You’ll twist deeper. But if your eyes match your head position as you twist, you don’t twist as far. Learned that trick by taking Feldenkries classes.

    • Love that tip! Thanks, Linda. I always think of backing up while driving; works best if you’re looking over your right shoulder, and if you have car seats with little or no head rest. At least I don’t cheat by just using the rear view mirrors. At any rate, I love the tip. Follow your gaze! By the way, I still follow you recommended approach to savasana, imagine you’re a steak hot off the grill “resting” for a couple of minutes. That came natural from the start!
