Crosby Oats

OK, this project has been rattling around in my head for some months now, so I thought I’d get it out of my system, as it were, once and for all.  It’s not a sketch, per se, although these’s a tiny bit of sketching involved, which I did in Procreate; it’s a manipulation of a photograph and an image, which I did in Procreate and PowerPoint.

Crosby Oats

Technical:  I’m a big fan of Crosby, Still, Nash, and sometimes Young (you know, like the vowels, right? a – e – i – o – u – and sometimes – Y). Bio of Maestro David Crosby is here. Plus, I also like Quaker Oats products, especially hot oatmeal; that image comes from here.

Again, if necessary, mea culpa. Hey, it’s my blog; but, I know, there are rules’n stuff.

Saturday Afternoon Pub

My layers got out of control. I ended up just going with the Procreate flow, backwash is more like it.
It started when Annyth and I made a relatively unexpected stop at the 17th Street Public House for a porter, no make that two for each of us after squeezing in a couple of delivered tacos from J&R Tacos at halftime. Yea, it became an outing.
And there I was staring at a cool Dogfish Head tap head, which I photographed, brought home, and started playing with. Part of that photo remains in today’s image, but that particular portion – and the drawing itself – kept resizing themselves within their layers. At any rate, here’s where I decided to draw the line and scream kaput!

Music: 12 String Taylor guitar, open G tuning, composed by Plongeaux in NOLA, Jan. 2010 just before the Saints won the Super Bowl.

Video: iMovie, Photo Booth, MacBook Pro

Image(s): OK, this requires some splainin’… I “grabbed” the above photo from the video, edited it in My Sketch, an iPad app, imported it into Procreate and added additional material, i.e., the dude in the doorway fucking with the lightswitch. At the end of the video, where it says visit: http://www.propriolongo.com, well, that was done in Procreate and exported as a video clip, which I then added to the end of the video.

Penciling Technology

Painting this pencil has challenged the entire crew at portfoliolongo.com. There’s know-how, and it’s certainly a capital asset in this business; but at this morning’s staff meeting the technicians emphasized do-how and it’s practical significance. The paint isn’t drying for some reason, and production is suspended until we find a solution.

Aroma Therapy & Another Pencil

Last year a buddy of mine gave me some wood to carve. I’m halfway through the cottonwood bark, and just today I started messing with a piece of cedar. It’s a work in progress…as illustrated:

Fragrant Cedar

Yes, it’s a boy, a baby pencil boy.

Shutters

Wood shutters on just about every window here.

Note: Three LRVs from Apollo 15, 16, and 17 (1971 and 1972) remain on the moon. Who’s feeding the meter?

Big Move Anxiety

It’s not the 1,824 miles, the 28 + hour drive, the movers, all our stuff, getting the certified houseplants in, the change of address forms, the new time zone, the goodbyes, the new networks, etc.; it’s the thought of those LIGHT SWITCHES AND THEIR PLACEMENT that’s keeping me up.

By the way, this photo-trickery was done in PowerPoint … as if that were related to another previous post.

Savasana

I go places during Savasana. Just today I took a spin around the block.

I joke about yoga, but in the year and a half since I started practicing it, it has come to mean more to me than words can express. Learning how to listen to the stories that my own respiration is telling me is, I’m sorry, I can’t resist, breathtaking. There’s so much more to yoga that I don’t like talking about it at all.

When Ann turned me on to Fifty Three Paper, my first drawings were yoga related. Here are a couple of examples:

I modified the following photo of one of my blocks and made a blank notecard of it. It was inspired by my first instructor, Paula at Shakti Yoga in Des Moines, where I’m a beginner-practitioner.  Namaste to my other instructors Marialyce and Joseph.

Remote Post

An unusual sky over The Moines. I wish I had time to draw this, but this is only a test.

Revision: Sun., Nov. 17, 2013

I’m curious to see whether this post gets pulled to the top because I’m editing it. I’m also curious to see what happens when I add another image to an old post.  In this case it’s a variation of the above image, which I posted by cell phone remotely yesterday evening. It was produced, i.e., modified in an app called My Sketch, that is to say, I had nothing to do with modification other than selecting “Art Sketch.”
