mDAC 2020 Virtual Conference: Jerry in the Top 100!

After a hiatus of two years, 2018 and 2019, the Mobile Digital Art and Creativity (mDAC) exhibition and conference returned. However, because of the pandemic, mDAC2020 took place online in a virtual manner a la Zoom. On the evening of Friday, June 26, 2020 there was the exhibit featuring the top 100, and out of them, the top 11, and on Saturday (6/27/20) and Sunday (6/28/20), two days of digital art workshops (click here to see the top 100 plus other details, including the jurors and the hands-on presenters). And if you had looked closely at the winners, you might have noticed that my piece, entitled Jerry, made in into the top 100!! How cool is that? What’s as cool is that I made it into the top 100 at mDAC2015 and mDAC2016.

I had already presented something about Jerry in a recent post about how cool it is to spend a little extra time with folks no longer with us in the3 flesh, click here to see that. Jerry was a dear friend whom I had gotten to know while living in Athens, Ohio from 1998 until 2005, but even after Ann and I moved away, we all stayed in touch.  I’m so happy that Jerry was selected because, remembering this honor will always allow me to continue celebrating Jerry’s extraordinary life. See Jerry’s obit here.

lumpensammler among mDAC2016 Top 100!

Unbelievable! My piece, lumpensammler was selected to be among the top 100 mobile paintings, i.e., digital iPad artwork, at the Mobile Digital Arts & Creativity Summit, 2016…click here to see the top 100.

Why unbelievable? Because this is the second year in a row one of my pieces was selected into the mDAC Top 100! Click here to see last year’s selection announcement.

I posted lumpensammler on this illustroblog back on May 8, 2016…click here to see that post and the short story behind it. A few weeks later I submitted it, along with 4 other pieces; lumpensammler was selected!!!!!!!

I’m unbelievably thrilled!

mDAC2015: Sketchy SKETCH CLUB Live Model Drawing Snippet

What a treat to have participated in the Mobile Digital Art & Creativity Summit in Palo Alto, CA this past weekend! And to have a piece selected for and shown at this event, beyond words!

First, I should have my head examined for doing that and posting this on the day before we’re moving across town! So let me get this up and posted before I take leave for a few days; I’ll have to keep this very brief and leave out 99% of what I learned and what went down that actually had an impact on me.

I’ll limit my comments to a session on day #2 of the summit: Figure Drawing with Live Model by Jeremy Sutton, founder of www.Paintboxtv.com featuring the illustrative Inky Bunny, live model. This was my fist try at SKETCH CLUB, which I had mistakenly identified as ArtRage, which I also…

I’ll limit my comments to a session on day #2 of the summit: Figure Drawing with Live Model by Jeremy Sutton, founder of www.Paintboxtv.com featuring the illustrative Inky Bunny, live model. This was my fist try at SKETCH CLUB, which I had mistakenly identified as ArtRage, which I also like, by the way. However, now that I’ve uncrossed my wires, let me point out more explicitly that I fell in love with Sketch Club because of how gracefully I was introduced to it by Jeremy Sutton, a talented, generous artist and a master teacher. To have covered as much with so many in such a short period of time… well, I’m speechless!

Back to packing and loading! Back in a few days.

Throw Dog: Background and Foreground

“Throw Dog” was selected to be among the top 100 by jurors at the Mobile Digital Art & Creativity Summit.

Exhibition opening: Palo Alto Art Center, Aug. 7, 2015, 5:30 to 8 p.m.

I’m honored one of my submissions was selected. I’m planning to attend the opening and stick around for the two-day summit. Hope to see you there!

Rather Big News

I learned today that one of the iPad drawings that I submitted to the mDAC Summit’s Mobile Digital Art & Photography Exhibition was accepted and will be exhibited at the Palo Alto Art Center during the month of August, 2015. In the category of digital painting there were over 700 submissions, and mine was among the top 100. To celebrate this great news everyone at portfoliolongo.com will have the day off tomorrow. In a few weeks, when the news is ready to be shared, I’ll post the announcement link and the image in question. The opening and reception will take place on August 7, 2015.
